English Championship sides Norwich City, Brighton and Hove Albion, and new joiners Aston Villa are fighting for Uruguayan striker Diego Rolan, according to reports. Aston Villa are keen on returning to the Premier League as soon as possible.
They have gone lengths that hint that Roberto Di Matteo could have a chance, but other Championship sides wouldn’t have it. Rolan has been attracting interests from several clubs across Europe but after his brilliant start in the new campaign, French News outlet RMC Sport claim that representatives from Norwich, and Brighton and Hove Albion were watching the player in a game recently with the hope to sign him.
Rolan plays for Bordeaux in the French Ligue 1, and he has scored two goals in three games so far. Aston Villa were linked to the player all summer. The report says they are still interested in the 26-year old forward. However, they would have to battle their Championship counterparts to land the player this summer, or in the next.
There are reports in other quarters linking Manchester United and German champions Bayern Munich to the player. It the reports are true, it would be difficult for the Championship trio to acquire him. His records in goal scoring are the premise on getting the player for the Championship side as they push for a promotion. If the bigger options do not come through, or they delay, then Rolan would have to decide which side he sees the brightest future to sign for.
Brighton lost 2-0 to another serious Premier League contender Newcastle. The loss ended the unbeaten start of the club this season. They have been active in the transfer market, but doubts remain if they would be able to get Rolan before the summer transfer window closes.
