Ambition drew him to Brighton and Hove Albion, says Hyypia

Sami Hyypia has said that he believes Brighton and Hove Albion are in a very good position to launch another assault on securing promotion to the Premier League next season after narrowly missing out in the last two seasons.

The former Liverpool defender has joined the Seagulls as their new manager after the resignation of Oscar Garcia following his failure to take the club beyond the Championship playoff semi finals last season but the Finnish legend believes it is a very realistic target for the club to reach the Premier League.

The 40 year spoke to the media at his unveiling as the manager where he stated that the ambition of the club drew him to it and hopefully, he can bring in a lot of success to the Seagulls over the next three years.

Hyypia went on to add that he is always confident. He mentioned that confidence is not a bad thing but they must also be realistic about their targets for the new season. He insisted that the club has had a couple of very good campaigns over the last couple of seasons and his job is to take it up another level.

Brighton and Hove Albion suffered playoff heartbreak for the second year running following their playoff semi final defeat in 2012 as well.

Hyypia, who enjoyed two decent seasons in charge of German giants Bayer Leverkusen before being sacked last season has already appointed Sammy Lee as his new assistant manager and Antti Niemi as the club’s goalkeeping coach.

It has been almost thirty years since Brighton and Hove Albion last played in the top division of English football and with the promise of new players and a fresh management team, fans believe this could be the year that their long wait gets over finally.
